For Your Safety! Kitesurfing code of conduct: · The BKSA recommend you are a competent swimmer. Never ride so far away from the shore that you cannot swim back in an emergency. · Understand the tides/currents where you are about to sail. · Observe beach and water zoning, navigation channels and similar. · Unless dedicated rescue cover is available do not sail in offshore winds. If in doubt don't go out. · All riders should be familiar with rescue signals and practice self-rescue pack down manoeuvres when undergoing kitesurfing instruction with a qualified BKSA instructor. Rights of way · The rider on the port tack gives way the rider on starboard tack. · The upwind rider gives way to the downwind rider. · The overtaking rider keeps clear. · The rider leaving the beach has right of way over a rider riding into the beach. · Before jumping check behind and downwind of you – maintain a safe distance, erring on the side of caution. · If new or careless kiters show up, talk to them with your friends about what´s at risk. Take the time to explain how to safely get into the sport, and where to obtain adequate and professional instruction. Rhosneigr in particular:The arrows below show the dominant wind directions, Red being dangerous directions in which to go out kitesurfing. A westerly wind however, due to the curvature of our bay, will be safe if the kitesurfer walks all the way to the north part of the beach, where the wind will be cross-shore. The same goes in a North-westerly wind. Any Easterly in the wind will make your kiting experience in Rhosneigr less enjoyable and potentially dangerous. The wind is gusty and off-shore. If you launch in a south-easterly, make sure you do so at low tide and in the water to avoid turbulences from the village. The safest wind directions are south, south west, and north-west, indicated by the blue arrows. Your safe rigging up, launching and landing areas will be the same as the FKS usual teaching areas, indicated by the two rectangles, that is well away from any downwind obstacle. Our instructors will kindly help to launch you if you have no buddy available, but please refrain from riding in our teaching areas for your own safety and our customers’. Your jumping sessions should take place well away from the beach and other users. The rock outcrop in front of Funsport is a NO-LAUNCH ZONE. Do not rig up or launch within fifty metres of any obstacle, especially these spiky, barnacle incrusted rocks. You may think you are good enough, truth is, no-one is. In any case, think of the example you are giving to less experienced kiters! Please do not self-launch. There is no safe way of self-launching a kite. ASK around or do not risk going out on your own. Launch feet in the water with your kite towards the village. If you get lofted, panic, or have a knot in your lines, you will end up in the water, which is a hell of a lot softer than sand coming down from 5ft up! Make sure your kite is not too big for the conditions. Use an experienced launcher, and hand signals to launch. Rig your kite with your lines downwind, so you can check They are attached properly. Check again for knots just before launching. When in doubt, don’t hesitate to ask. We at FKS will gladly Answer your questions on the phone or on the beach! On the other hand, we might not be so civil to kiters who knowingly endanger themselves and others on a regular basis! Think safe, Kite safe! Enjoy your kiting! |
